West Melbourne
West Melbourne was created in 1959 to stop the area from being annexed into the City of Melbourne and to avoid the levying of an ad valorem tax.
The primary focus of the community is to protect and preserve the residential nature of the City and to maintain its high quality of life through providing a myriad of services to the citizenry. The hometown feeling and excellent neighborhood schools help to make it family friendly.
The residents enjoy an active lifestyle through first-class leisure and cultural amenities, and proximity to beaches, open space, the Kennedy Space Center and the amenities of larger metropolitan areas.
The City of West Melbourne operates under a Council/ Manager form of government.
