Cocoa Beach

Cocoa Beach was homesteaded by freed slaves after the Civil War. It was incorporated in 1925, and is remembered as the setting for the 1960's sitcom I Dream of Jeannie

Cocoa Beach is located just south of Cape Canaveral on Florida's Space Coast, and just north of Patrick Air Force Base.

It is an oceanfront community on the barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and Banana River Lagoon.

Although less than a mile wide, Cocoa Beach is about six miles long, with easy access to the beach along all six miles.

The population of Cocoa Beach was 12,482 at the 2000 census, but swells to more than 30,000 during the peak tourist season. More than half the population is over 50 years old, and about 25% of the homes are single person. The median income is $42,372.

Cocoa beach is home to Ron Jon's Surf Shop. With 52,000 Sq Ft, and open 24 hours a day, Ron Jon's is the world's largest and most famous surf shop. Celebrities born in Cocoa Beach include Surfer Kelly Slater and comedian Carrot Top.

Residents and tourists alike enjoy outdoor activities such as swimming, surfing, fishing, sunbathing, boating and golfing.

You can hang out at the Cocoa Beach Pier, watch shuttle launches from the beach, enjoy the 3 oceanfront parks, 27 hole public golf course, excellent hotel/motel accommodations, and tours of the Banana River by boat or kayak.
